- The Hand of Fatima is believed to represent Femininity, and is referred as the Woman’s Holy Hand. It is believed to have extraordinary characteristics that can protect people from evil and other dangers.
- Fatimah bint Muhammad was the youngest daughter and according to Shia Muslims, the only child of the Islamic Prophet Muhammad and Khadijah. Fatimah is the object of love and respect of Muslims, as she was the child closest to her Father and supported Him in His difficulties. Fatimah was the supporter and loving caretaker of her own husband and children, and was the only child of Muhammad to have male children live beyond childhood, whose descendants are spread throughout the Islamic world and are known as Sayyids.
- The Hamsa’s path into Jewish Culture, and its popularity particularly in Sephardic and Mizrahi Jewish Communities, can be traced through its use in Islam. This popular Muslim Talisman became a part of Jewish Tradition in North African and Middle Eastern Muslim countries. The symbol of the Hand appears in Kabbalistic Manuscripts and Amulets, doubling as the Hebrew letter “Shin”, the first letter of “Shaddai”, one of the names referring to God. The Hamsa in Jewish culture was utilized often by Sephardic Jews during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. However, the Hamsa has been present in Judaism dating all the way back to Biblical times. The Hamsa symbol emerged during late antiquity, the Byzantine period, and even medieval Europe. The Hamsa was often associated with “sympathetic magic”. Historians such as Shalom Sabar believe that after the Jewish expulsion from Spain in 1492, exiled Jews likely used the Hamsa as protection in the foreign lands to which they were forced to relocate.
- The Seal of Solomon (or Ring of Solomon) is the signet ring attributed to King Solomon in medieval Jewish tradition and in Islamic and Western Occultism. It was often depicted in either a pentagram or hexagram shape; the latter also known as the Star of David in Jewish tradition.
- This ring variously gave Solomon the power to command demons, jinn (genie), or to speak with animals. Due to the proverbial wisdom of Solomon came to be seen as an amulet or talisman, or a symbol or character in medieval and Renaissance-era magic, occultism, and alchemy.
- The legend of the Seal of Solomon was developed primarily by medieval Arabic writers, who related that the ring was engraved by God and was given to the King directly from heaven. The ring was made from brass and iron, and the two parts were used to seal written commands to good and evil spirits, respectively.
